Days of Awe Services 5782 / 2021

CANADA-WIDE SELICHOT SERVICE

This service is held on a Saturday evening prior to Rosh Hashanah. The mood of Selichot, one of contemplation and self-examination, enables us to prepare for the Days of Awe which are nearly upon us. Canada-wide Selichot service will be held online at 7:00 PM Mountain Time on August 28.

CHILDREN’S PROGRAM

On the first day of Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur afternoon, there will be an educational program for children, held outside. Children from three years to grade four are welcome. There is no charge for the program.

TASHLICH

Tashlich, a brief, yet beautiful ceremony held beside a river or stream, will take place at Stanley Park again this year (4A Street & 42 Avenue SW at West parking lot). On Rosh Hashanah afternoon at 2:30 PM we will meet near the west parking lot at the river in Stanley Park to prepare for Yom Kippur by symbolically casting our sins into the “depths of the waters.”

ROSH HASHANAH (2nd day)

An intimate, poetic take on Rosh Hashanah worship. The service will be lay-led, and Rabbi Glickman will offer the D’var Torah.

20 x 20 TALKS

We invited a fascinating and diverse group of Temple members to speak to us about turning. Each speaker has submitted 20 slides which will show for 20 seconds each, allowing the speaker exactly six minutes and forty seconds to address “Turning” from his or her own unique perspective. Engaging speakers; 20 slides; 20 seconds each; a wonderful experience for us all.

A CONFESSION FOR OUR TIME (Contemporary Service)

A special spiritual Yom Kippur service. Congregants will lead us through this beautiful hour-long service on Yom Kippur afternoon.

YIZKOR (Memorial) SERVICE

As part of the afternoon service on Yom Kippur, we hold a beautiful and moving memorial service. This year, we will remember our own dear ones during a designated moment of silence and will inscribe their names in a Yom Kippur Memorial Booklet which will be distributed to the congregation on Yom Kippur. The Yizkor Service begins at 5:30 PM. The Yizkor list is created from our member database.
